Elafonisi (deer island) is a small island with white sand , separated from Crete by a lagoon with a depth of 1 meter or less.

There are not any deers walking on the island or the sandy beaches or anywhere... It is 75 km from Chania and will take about 1.5 hours to get here



Elafonisi is a littele further than Chrissoskalitissa a monastery that the myth says if there is true faith someone will see The golden step!

 Arriving at the island you will find many small beaches on the south coast. White sand beaches but also "Bermuda" pink beaces that was created by corals.

Sea water has a astonidhing blue-green colour.

Αν έρθετε για διακοπές στην Κρήτη, το Ελαφονήσι είναι ένα από τα ονόματα που θα ακούσετε σίγουρα. Το Ελαφονήσι είναι ένα μικρό νησάκι με λευκή άμμο, που το χωρίζει από τη στεριά μια λιμνοθάλασσα με βάθος 1 μέτρο το πολύ.

Ελαφονήσι σημαίνει νησί των ελαφιών, αλλά δεν θα δείτε κανένα ελάφι να περπατάει πάνω στο νησί ή στη γύρω περιοχή. Απέχει 75 χιλιόμετρα από τα Χανιά και θα χρειαστείτε περίπου 1,5 ώρα για να φτάσετε εδώ,
Στον δρόμο θα συναντήσετε το μοναστήρι της Χρυσοσκαλίτισσας που ξεχωρίζει από μακριά όντας κατάλευκο και κτισμένο ψηλά πάνω σε ένα μεγάλο βράχο. Ανηφορίστε για ένα ευλαβικό προσκύνημα στο ιστορικό αυτό μοναστήρι και αναζητήστε το χρυσό σκαλοπάτι, που όπως λέει ο μύθος, μόνο οι πραγματικά πιστοί το βλέπουν.
Το Ελαφονήσι βρίσκεται 5 χιλιόμετρα μετά από την Χρυσοσκαλίτισσα, και φτάνοντας εδώ θα αντικρύσετε μια μεγάλη γυμνή έκταση που έχει διαμορφωθεί σαν χώρος στάθμευσης, λίγους σκονισμένους κέδρους και τα υπέροχα χρώματα της λιμνοθάλασσας.
Η παραλία απέχει λιγότερο από 200 μέτρα από το νησάκι και μπορείτε άνετα να περπατήσετε στα ζεστά, αβαθή νερά. Φτάνοντας στο νησί θα ανακαλύψετε πολλές μικρές παραλίες στην νότια ακτή του.
Η άμμος στο Ελαφονήσι είναι λευκή, αλλά σε πολλά σημεία έχει μια ροζ απόχρωση από τα χιλιάδες σπασμένα κοχύλια που περιέχει. Τα νερά είναι διάφανα και με το γαλαζοπράσινο χρώμα τους θα σας θυμίσουν εξωτικό παράδεισο.
