Chios is an island in the eastern Aegean . Is very close to the coast of Minor Asia . Just 3.5 nautical miles separate it from Cape Punta peninsula as Eritrea at the height of Cesme . It is the fifth largest island in Greece ( 904 tetr.chiliometra ) with a coastline of 213 km and a population that lives in both the city and the port of Chios and 64 villages. Still , Chios has great expatriate community in London and New York.
The main products exported are gum , oil , figs and wine , and has an international reputation for the quality and size of the shipping . Administratively, together with the islands Inousses and Fisherman is the Chios prefecture with a population reaches 53,817 inhabitants ( 2005 ) . Its capital is the city of Chios , also called Country .
